We Get It. Groups can feel a little (or a lot) intimidating.

Overt Groups aren’t as awkward or scary as you might think.

Group (2)

With Overt Groups, you’re in control of your vulnerability.

Your hands are on the steering wheel, and your foot is on the gas. You’ll never be forced to share or do something you’re not comfortable with.

We like to think of it as attending a growth group or a group coaching call.

Overt Groups offer benefits that you can’t get with other therapy options.

RESULTS

In many instances group therapy has been found to be more effective than traditional therapy for challenges like anxiety, depression, and relationships. We all want to feel better, faster.

COST EFFECTIVE

Overt group therapy is 40% less expensive than traditional therapy and includes significantly more support. More for your money is always a good thing!

COMMUNITY

A big part of the group therapy experience is recognizing that others struggle with the same things you do. It’s the place where you can safely say, “yeah, me too…”

HUMAN CONNECTION

When you feel good about helping someone else, or feel heard yourself, you get a healthy dose of dopamine, which is the “feel good” chemical your brain craves.

SAFETY NET

It’s helpful to know that when you report back to your group every week about your progress, they’ll be there to celebrate your successes. Or give you more perspectives on what you could’ve done differently if you didn’t handle something as well as you hoped.

FRIENDSHIPS

Groups can also foster friendships and social skills. At their core, they enable human connection. And that’s something most of us have been missing lately, right? As Brene Brown says, “It’s why we’re here...” It’s why Overt is here. We hope it’s why you’re here, too.

Overt Groups have far-reaching social benefits.

HELP MORE PEOPLE
Bottom line, our therapists can reach and assist more people.
More therapy = more people getting better. That’s a win in our book.
IMPACT
You, your group, and your therapist all benefit from your sessions. You may be having a hard time, but that doesn't mean you don't have valuable insights that will resonate with someone else. The group is as much there for you as you are there for the group.

Still skeptical? Let us answer a few more of your questions.

Overt is here to support your journey. It’s natural to want to try different ways of getting help during different seasons of your life. Whether you started with a group or a self-led program, we’re not about being a “one and done” solution. You can always reach out to your group therapist—or any of our therapists—if you’d like to try individual counseling. This is about getting you back to good.

First and foremost, we hope you’ll practice patience. Most people are probably just as nervous as you are. So, it might take a time (or two!) to get the group to gel. That’s where your Wellness Pro comes in. Therapy groups aren’t a free-for-all. They’re a guided experience moderated by a licensed professional. Each person will have a meaningful opportunity to share their experiences and contribute. And, of course, you can discuss any challenges with the group privately with your provider.

Your Wellness Pro has already agreed to comply with HIPAA, which means your information is safe with us—including what you say in a group. Plus, in your first group meeting, your therapist will outline the guiding principles to which every member must agree before engaging in group. Members who violate those guidelines may be removed from the group at the discretion of the moderating therapist. No refunds will be issued to those who violate group guidelines.

You know what they say about one bad apple…Once again, your Wellness Pro is committed to protecting the group dynamic and helping everyone in the group participate. Will you have members who always want to talk? Probably. Will your Wellness Pro let that derail the group for everyone? Nope.

While we hope you’ll want to share and your Wellness Pro will work hard to create a safe space to do that, there may be times when you just don’t have much to say. And that’s OK. Respectfully listening can be very effective – so balancing speaking and listening is ideal. It’s your right to be still when you need to be—just as long as you’re still engaged in learning and growing.
